The Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Line Railway is an approved Indian Railways project planned to connect Ahmedabad with Dholera SIR, Dholera International Airport and Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex. The approximately 134 km corridor was approved in May 2026 with an estimated project cost of about ₹20,667 crore.
Ahmedabad to Dholera by a Dedicated Double Rail Line
What Is the Ahmedabad–Dholera Railway?
It is a new semi high-speed double railway line under the Ministry of Railways. The project is intended to provide faster passenger and regional connectivity between Ahmedabad and the emerging Dholera industrial region.
This Is Not Simply an Extension of an Existing Local Line
The Cabinet-approved project adds approximately 134 km to the Indian Railways network. It is planned as a semi high-speed double-line corridor connecting Ahmedabad (Sarkhej) with Dholera and important development nodes along the route. The Government of India describes it as Indian Railways’ first semi high-speed project planned using indigenously developed technology.
Faster Ahmedabad–Dholera travel is intended to make daily commuting and same-day return journeys more practical.
Dholera SIR is a key destination on the approved corridor.
Dholera Airport and Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex are part of the planned connectivity framework.

Regional connectivity to the National Maritime Heritage Complex.
Why the Railway Matters for Dholera
Dholera is being developed as an industrial city. Large employment centres require efficient movement of people, services and goods — not only road access.
Daily Commuting
Rail connectivity could make Ahmedabad–Dholera daily commuting more practical for workers and professionals.
Industrial Workforce
A growing manufacturing region needs efficient access to skilled and supporting labour markets.
Airport Access
Rail integration with Dholera Airport can strengthen multi-modal passenger connectivity.
Tourism
Lothal connectivity can support access to the National Maritime Heritage Complex.
Regional Integration
The corridor connects a developing industrial city more directly with metropolitan Ahmedabad.
Lower Road Dependence
Rail can complement the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway rather than making regional mobility dependent on one mode.
Railway + Expressway + Airport Is the Bigger Story
Dholera’s long-term connectivity case does not depend on a single infrastructure project. The stronger story is the integration of road, rail and air infrastructure around the industrial city.
A Transport Network Built Around an Industrial Region
Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway improves road access.Dholera International Airport is being developed for passenger and cargo aviation. The railway adds another planned high-capacity passenger transport layer.Together, these projects are designed to improve Dholera’s connection to Ahmedabad and wider economic networks.
Dedicated road connectivity between Ahmedabad and the Dholera region.
Approved future rail connection between Ahmedabad and Dholera.
Greenfield airport being developed as part of the wider regional ecosystem.
Manufacturing and industrial development creates the economic demand behind connectivity.
Railway Station Planned Beside Dholera Airport
In a July 2026 Civil Aviation Ministry statement, the government said the rail corridor’s entry point and station are intended to be positioned directly adjacent to the Dholera Airport terminal. The stated objective is to allow a passenger travelling from Ahmedabad to transfer directly from the rail system to the airport terminal.Exact final station design should be confirmed as railway and airport implementation progresses.
Ahmedabad–Dholera Railway Current Status — 2026
The project received Cabinet approval on 13 May 2026.A July 2026 Ministry of Railways parliamentary reply continued to list the Ahmedabad–Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Line among railway works taken up in Gujarat.
Approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in May 2026.
Approved / project taken up. It should not be described as operational railway service.
Government approval states completion is planned up to 2030–31.
Ahmedabad–Dholera Railway Project Timeline
This timeline separates the approved project from future implementation milestones.
Rail connectivity has long formed part of wider transport planning for Dholera and the industrial corridor.
CCEA approved the approximately 134 km Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)–Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Line.
Ministry of Railways listed the project among Gujarat railway works taken up for industrial-corridor connectivity.
Completion timeframe stated by Government of India at project approval.
Do Not Confuse It With the Bhimnath–Dholera Logistic Line
Government railway records also list a separate Bhimnath–Dholera Logistic Hub rail project. It is not the same project as the 134 km Ahmedabad–Dholera semi high-speed corridor.
Ahmedabad–Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Line
Approximately 134 km.Approved cost around ₹20,667 crore.Intended to connect Ahmedabad, Dholera SIR, Dholera Airport and Lothal.
Bhimnath–Dholera Logistic Hub New Line
A separate approximately 23 km railway project listed by the Ministry of Railways at a cost of around ₹446 crore. Its role relates to logistics connectivity rather than the Ahmedabad–Dholera semi high-speed passenger corridor.
What Could the Railway Change for Dholera?
Rail connectivity becomes most important when economic activity produces recurring travel demand.Dholera’s industrial expansion could create that demand through workers, professionals, business visitors and services.
Better Ahmedabad–Dholera commuting could widen Dholera’s accessible labour market.
Faster passenger movement can support companies operating in the industrial region.
Rail-air integration may expand practical access to Dholera International Airport.
Lothal connectivity can support visitor movement to the National Maritime Heritage Complex.
Does the Railway Make Every Nearby Plot Valuable?
No.Railway approval strengthens Dholera’s long-term connectivity case, but it does not establish a guaranteed property outcome.Exact location and planning context still matter.
The railway should currently be treated as an approved future connectivity project.
Proximity to a planned corridor should not replace village, TP, FP and land-use analysis.
Property performance still depends on entry price, access, legal status and future demand.
